Traffic Control Device Manual Updated to Improve Road Safety

The national standards for traffic signs, signals, and pavement markings have not changed since 2009.

The Federal Highway Administration has released the 11th edition of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices for Streets and Highways (MUTCD). The manual provides standards for signs, signals, and markings “to ensure a uniform and predictable environment for people who walk, bike, and drive.“ The updated manual also supports innovation to improve travel and the future of transportation infrastructure.

“It has been over a decade since the MUTCD was last updated and a lot has changed in that time,” said Federal Highway Administrator Shailen Bhatt. “The new MUTCD gives greater consideration to all road users, who deserve to be safe when traveling on our streets and roads. It will also help improve the public’s travel experience whether driving on an Interstate or crossing the street in cities and towns across America.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Administrator Bhatt to be directed by the Lord as he heads the Federal Highway Administration.
  • For Secretary Buttigieg to have discernment as he oversees the Transportation Department.
  • For federal, state, and local officials as they ensure that street signs, signals, and markings meet the national standards.
